By March of 2015, the streets of Paris will have a new addition: Wind Trees.  Designed by French company New Wind, the Wind Tree is a turbine that is designed to look like a tree so that it is both a power source and visually appealing.  The trunks and branches are made of steel and the leaves are made up of a very lightweight plastic.  Each tree has 72 turbines shaped as leaves which can produce about 3.1 kW of power.  Their lightweight quality allows them to rotate in winds as low as 4.4 mph.  A traditional wind turbine requires strong winds in order to get moving.  The cost of the Wind Tree is $36,500 but because it will save on energy, the turbines will eventually pay themselves off.
