Orion is the name of NASA’s newest spacecraft that will take astronauts to Mars. It has the largest heat shield every built to guarantee safe re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere for the four people who will be on board. The heat shield was designed to be able to withstand temperatures that could cause even a nuclear reactor to break down. The first flight test of Orion was called Exploration Flight Test-1 and the next test is planned to take place in 2017. The four astronauts are schedule to travel on Orion in 2021 if all the tests go as planned.
