Many people eagerly awaiting the arrival of the iPhone 6 were disappointed and confused to find out that the new iPhone does not include the sapphire display. A deal made by Apple with GT Advanced Technologies back in November was what led people to believe that Apple was going to implement the sapphire screen. Sapphire is the second hardest material with diamond at number one. People had hopes that a sapphire screen would significantly decrease the amount of cracked iPhones we see today. Apple seems to have stayed with Corning, their long time partner, and is still using Gorilla Glass for iPhone screens. Apple reported that there would have been sapphire production difficulties because of the iPhone 6’s curved edges. The company is still planning on using sapphire to cover the new Apple watch which comes out in 2015.
