Project Visio.M is an effort between the Technical University Munich , BMW, and Daimler that aims to make improvements with safety and range of the the battery-powered compact car.  They have come up with a car created from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP).  This material provides the strength and hardness of rolled steel but weighs about 50% less.
