Ulfberht is a high-quality Viking sword. The metal used to make these swords is so incredibly strong that it is astonishing how someone of that time could have created it. Recent research has found that the origin of these legendary swords is somewhere near where they were found in Central Europe. Many swords have been created to forge the Ulfberht. These forged swords were made out of Damascus steel, which contained high amounts of carbon just as Ulfbehrt’s crucible steel. The amount of carbon included in the blade of a sword will determine its hardness. The Ulfbehrt had three times the amount of carbon than any other sword of its time. It was also flexible, lightweight, and had hardly any impurities.
