Next month, Ford will begin selling their new F-150 trucks which use aluminum for almost the entire body. Ford has created this truck in order to address the previous issue of fuel efficiency, though aluminum is more expensive than steel. The F-series trucks have been Ford’s best selling car for 32 years, accounting for about 90% of Ford’s profit. Russell Barnett, from a Ford dealership in Tennessee, described the switch as a risk worth taking. Though this isn’t the first time aluminum has been used in the auto industry, it is the first time that it has been used for the entire body of a truck this size.
